Unit 7 Blog

Hello everyone,

Complete the Meeting Aesclepius mp3 (located in the Doc Sharing area). Describe your meditative practices for the week and discuss the experience. My mediation practice this week was quite helpful.  I have been able to meditate 4 times this week.  After meditation, I feel so relaxed, calm and seem to find more inner peace.  Explain how mindfulness or meditation has fostered an increase in your psychological or spiritual wellness. Meditation to me has helped me cope with the little stress balls that are thrown at me.  Each time I meditate, I feel that much better. How can you continue to apply these practices in your life to foster greater health and wellness? I will continue to meditate.  I listen to the past meditation and relaxation assignments over and over again.  I plan on going out to purchase CD's with this type of relaxation and meditaiton sounds so that I do not get bored with the 3 that I have from this class.

Describe the saying: "One cannot lead another where one has not gone himself" (p.477). How does this apply to the health and wellness professional? In my profession, which is in the medical field, I cannot tell someone effectively how to stop drug abuse or alcoholism due to personal experience because I have not had to go down those roads since I do not have a drug or alcohol problem.   Do you have an obligation to your clients to be developing your health psychologically, physically, and spiritually? Yes, I do have an obligation to my patients because even if I have not been through what they are going through or have gone through, I can educate them with the professional information that has been provided to me by my professionals that have researched and put out information regarding their issues.  Why or why not? How can you implement psychological and spiritual growth in your personal life? I personally feel that spiritual growth in my personal life is right where I want and need it to be.  As far as physchological growth, there is always room for improvement.  Thank you!  Thank you!

Unit 6 Blog Discussion

Hello everyone,

Describe the exercise and assessment process. The exercise and assessment process was truly rewarding for me. What did you discover about yourself? I discovered about myself that I need to slow down and appreciate the little things in life.  Things like being thankful for my family's health along with mine.  We do not suffer or want for anything while in other parts of the world in which we life, there is great suffering. What area have you chosen to be a focus of growth and development? The area that I have chosen to focus on for growth and development is possibly getting my daughter to help me volunteer like a couple hours a week at a nursing home or Vetreran's Home to be able to spend time with the individuals who do not have a family or maybe play cards or board games is also a possibility.  Why? The reason why is because if I can help or assist someone with finding happiness or wholeness by spending time with the less fortunate, then my job is complete.  What are some specific exercises or activities that you can implement to foster greater wellness in this area? Some specific activities like I said above could be playing board games, card games or even just letting the individual's that I chose to visit just reminise about their past to help them think about the happier days from their life.  As far as exercises, coloring or painting comes to mind.  Thank you!

Unit 5 Discussion

Hi everyone,

Compare and contrast the Loving Kindness exercise and the Subtle mind exercise. Explain your experience including the benefits, frustrations etc.  I found this exercise to be completely relaxing and it helped relieve my headache to a certain degree.  However, the only frustration that I had was I listening to the water sound in the background, well let's just say I had to start all over again after I made a trip down the hall.

Discuss the connection of the spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness. Explain how the connection is manifested in your personal life.  The connection of my spiritual wellness to my mental and physical wellness is going to be improving drastically.  After I listened to all 3 of the relaxing exercises, I feel totally awesome afterwards and I want it to stay that way, so I am making changes to my personal life effective immediately, because it is so relaxing and helps me focus on what really matters and it also helps me sort out what doesn't or shouldn't matter and well, it is a great feeling.

Unit 4 Blog Spot

  1. Describe your experience. My experience was that it made me feel really relaxed and made me think about my husband and the love we have for each other and for myself. Did you find it beneficial? I did find it very beneficial.  Like I said it helped me relax.  I actually got rid of my headache.  Difficult?  I did not feel it was difficult at all.  Why or why not? Would you recommend this to others? Yes I would definitely recommend this to others. Why or why not? The reason I would recommend this to others is because I feel it will help them possibly find themselves and help them relax.
  2. What is the concept of "mental workout"? The concept of mental workout is trying to train your mind to handle and deal with issues that are thrown at you in a positive way so that it does not make you ill or depressed.  What does the research indicate are the proven benefits of a mental workout? Fewer headaches, reduced stress, less mental anguish and so much more.  How can you implement mental workouts to foster your psychological health? The way I can implement this to help my psychological health is to actually take time for myself.  Go for a walk, read a book, listen to soothing music so that you mind is clear and free from stress and makes room for growth.    Thank you!

Unit 3 Discussion

1.  Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal well being), where do you rate your A-physical well being, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?
Based on my reflections, on a scale of 1 -10 for my physical well being, I find my self to be a 5.  This means that I could exercise more and stress less.  With my spiritual well being, I find myself to be a 10.  As for my psychological well being, I find myself to be a 4.  This definitely needs to improve but I do not know how since the financial status of our economy is continuing to "circle the drain" and it does not look good for our future either.

2.  Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological).
A goal for myself for all of the three areas are to exercise and/or meditate more, continue my belief in God and that he will help me psychologically, because I am a firm believer that he does not put on your plate any more than you can handle.

3.  What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?
The activities and exercise that I can implement into my life to help me achieve each of my goals are to go for long walks, listen to the link that was provided this assignment, meditate, continue to cut corners on our budget to make our money last longer.

4.  Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of the Century. To hear this exercise, click here. Describe your experience. (What it beneficial? Frustrating? etc.)
I completely and totally loved this part of the exercise.  I found it to be completely satisfying and beneficial to me and I am going to try and save it as a favorite so that I can access it daily.

Thank you!
